Sorry we missedou also, we had a nice evening, good folks and it was great to put faces with the web conversations.
Glad Playa 'worked' for you. It is an interesting town with plenty to do and a very different experiecen than Cancun, the AI's on highway 307 oreven Playacar which is the planned community south of the ferry dock.
We will be doing get togethers again so maybe on your next trip (-:
Russ, sorry we missed you, my blackberry stopped receiving emails because I received so many while away that it stopped receiving and sending emails by Wednesday. We had a awesome trip, Gran Porto Real offered us a free upgrade to the Royal which was adults only and a true 5-6 star resort, it was incredible...We are back safe in the US and will definitely be back to Playa again....
Not sure if you are checking mail. I arrive 2/12 and I think we are going to have a little wine and cheese get together FRiday night before you leave. We have a condo about a block from you, Villas Maya on 1st Ave. Timing is 6 to 8pm if you are around.
Hope you are having a great trip. Interested in how you compare Playa to your Cancun trips (-:
Glad you got something that works well for you (-: Jody is on her way back from Playa today she went down with a couple other of our folks and our video guy so you will have good info from her.
Quiik note on shopping, food etc. There are a couple very good large american like grocery stores out on 307. It would pay you to take a cab and do a 'shopping' trip for your basics so you are not buying in Playacar.
Beer and liquior are very reasonable and you will find plenty of good meat, etc if you want to cook at the condo. Eating is whatever you want from $1 tacos at the local stands in town to NYC prices if you want that experience.
You can eat very well for reasonnable prices. Michael shot a few restuarants this trip so lets see what they come back with before I make recommendations (-:
Hey Bryan,
I found the Riu Palace Riviera Maya for you guys, 2 double beds with a seperate sitting area with a sofa. The junior suite is 3869.13 total for all 3 of you 1289.71 per person. This is in playacar 1.5 miles from 5th ave. let me know what you think Jody:) http://www.playadelcarmen.com/nHotels/RiuPalaceRivieraMaya/
Jody will be on chat after 1pm today. If you have questions about the small hotels she knows them pretty well and was in town abot 45 days ago. She is also going back next week and will be staying in Playacar if you have things you would like checked for you.
I am committed today, but let me get back to you tomorrow. I will ask Kris or Jody about the AI's in Playacar. THere are a couple I use when I go down for business but I much perfer the in town stay.
Below are 3 places I use often when I am in town for both biz and plaeasure.
In Playacar I use the Riu Palace or Iberostar for AI. Both have good food, nice pools and pour better liquior. As for cost in town, you can do like the locals and eat & drink very reasobablely or there is NYC price place also. We can give you some recommendations for eating if you stay in town.
If you are looking at all inclusives, I would try to find one in the Playacar area so that you have easy asscess to town. Many of the resorts south of Cancun are out on highway 307 and if you only want the resort that is OK, but if you want access to Playa Del Carmen itself (where I enjoy the nightlife, food and social sceen) then Playacar is your best bet.
Playacar was build on the south edge of Playa Del Carmen and has a number of very nice all inclusives. It is also a 15 minute walk to town or a $3 cab ride. In town the people , clubs, beach bars and food are a plenty. Playa is in no way like Cancun. You also have the option of a small hotel experiece or renting a 2 or 3 bedroom condo which will be very different than an all inclusinve..... should be a good trip for you, Playa is made for the peopel you want to meet.
Welcome to the social club and you are going to love Playa. Where are you staying and when are you going? There is lots to do both day or night, what are you interests.
Lots of the folks here on the site can offer suggestions for most anything you can think of. Ask questions and enjoy, we all really love town (-:
