Descriptions are important as is a good title. Minimize the use of adjectives they actually hurt your Google indexing. Use words that relate to the picture. We request image indexing in Google and Google will try to see if the picture is relevant to the title and description.
If Google see revelance it ranks the picture/page higher in the results
