I'm an old guy--a fossil--but I ain't dead yet and I love Playa.
Playa "happened" by accident for me. The first time I was there(about1995) was to take the ferry to Cozumel.
No reflection on Cozumel, but when I saw Playa I wanted to just stay there. Ended up ferrying back to Playa almost every day.
Came back several times and hope to do so for years to come.
My first trip back I stayed in Mom's Hotel and met a great cast of colorful characters---by the way, is Ricco still around?---including Paul, an Englishman with an affinity for the grape, Mike, who kept us supplied with Cuban cigars, and Doug, who barbequed and smoked beef sandwiches down by the Parrot, and a guy named Dennis who was an Aussie as I recall. God, what a great bunch of times I had.

Hey Pat.... Just found your post here... LOL I know exactly what you mean, I have been traveling to Playa since 1995 myself. and YES i know Ricco and Moms hotel very well... Playa has changes so much over the years its kind of bitter sweet but still a real special place.
HI Pat!
Thanks for the note, it's always good to hear what our client's have to say about their trip. I am glad to hear you will head back down there, I would love to arrange your next trip to Playa.
Sorry you had to miss the Beach Party, but I am sure this is going to one of many more. Maybe next time you head down we can coordinate and I can head down and we can have a Beer together.
Kris
Kris,
Got back last nite and wish we were going back tomorrow.
Didn't do much, but spent a lot of time on the beach.
Still love Playa, even though it has changed so radically over the years.
Couple of notes you may be interested in:
Da Gabi restaurant has been closed/sold some time back we were told.
La Famiglia on 10th & 10th is very good Italian-and reasonable.
Karen's still has the best fajitas in town.
Don Mario's on 10th Ave & Calle 8 has good steaks and shrimp.
Maria Bonita was ok--nice people- awfully close to Coco Bongo so noise until 4:30 AM
is a bit of a problem---hot water availibility was sporadic---and our room #305 has a mold problem which we tried to use bleach on and got some relief. Having said those things It probably sounds like a really negative review, but I really don't mean it that way--I tell you this for future reference with other clients, and would consider staying there again in an inside non-moldy room.
We're really pissed that we didn't go a week later so we could have met Russ and other Social Club members.
Hope our paths cross in future years.
