I have been traveling all my life and now work with the Worldlinks Team specializing in Playa Del Carmen and the Riviera Maya. What a GREAT place. Let me know if you need information, I will be glad to give some suggestions
Thank you for your welcome. I am going to be in Coz from Mar 3 to 17 , diving as much as possible. From the 17 to 24 I will be in Playa. I have not booked in Playa yet. Any suggestions on hotels on the beach that dont cost tooo much.

Hello Kris, Thankks for the warm welcome. l am thinking about April of this year. l am not really into the resort thing but would love to find some nice homestays close to Tulum and for later close to Veracruz.
Hi Kris! We are heading down there on Monday 2/1. We are staying at the Gran porto real.. It is actually our honeymoon:-) Any romantic ideas? Also, we were thinking of doing one excursion to some ruins (Maybe chichenitza) and one excursion to an eco park (Maybe Xarcet) Are these recommended, or are there better choices? Not to big into the clubbing scene, more or less looking for some great activities to do together. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!!
Thank you Kris. We are going down on April 16th for a week. We are booked at the Grand Mayan (timeshare thru RCI) and are really excited to find things to do in Playa. I've a lot of great things about it - we can't wait.
Hi Kris
Thanks for the welcome. I was pulling my hair out last night trying decide which hotel to choose, but the decision was made easier when I realized most of the hotels we looked at online were booked up for when we are coming down (jan 28). We ended up going on "bookit" and took a chance on their mystery 5 star for $129 a night. Turned out to be the Secrets Capri just north of town. We're mostly shoe-string travelers, but also like piece & quiet... and a little luxury now & then, so we splurged this time.
Perhaps you could give me some tips on a couple of things...
Is there a bus from the Cancun airport that would would drop us off at the hotel lobby? It looks like it's too far to walk with all of our luggage if it dropped us off on the main road.
Snorkeling at Xel-Ha lagoon looks nice, as do the ruins, but it might be easier if we had a car to get there. Is renting a car a bad idea? If it's OK, any place you'd recommend to get one? Or should we try to make our way down there on the local buses?
And do you know where the best snorkeling is from a beach on Cozumel ?
Thanks!
Russ
Thanks for your note. I do not think I will be following up with this site afterall. I lived in Playa for a long time, and worked for various timeshare companies. It is a pretty place to visit but has a dark underside for the American who works there or tries to live a life apart from drugs and alcohol. I found it very, very trying and the beauty wore off. Competiton with the locals was a real drag. I do not know if you are living and working there or what your circumstances are, or if you just visit. Even if you own your own business there, unless you are Mexican they make it very hard for you. Most of the Europeans I know who were able to succeed there ended up marrying a Mexican or taking a Mexican business parter who basically got most of the profits. I was shaken down and arrested for supposedly not having an FM3 (work Visa) but when immigration checked me out, they released me. I did in fact have the work visa. However, the local cops still shanghaied me to a jail acroos the highway and took all the money in my purse before they released me. This set-up was initiated by Mexican co-workers who were angry that I was making money. I then went to a Mexican attorney friend and he was horrified and asked if I'd like to file a complaint with the Police Chief. I knew this would only put the evil eye on me more, so I moved to Cozumel to escape all the envy and malice in Playa. You may see the place through rose-colored glasses but I don't. I finally moved to Vallarta prior to the 2005 hurricane, but left in a couple of months. Timeshare is a cut-throat business and there's no other jobs there for Americans except to start a business, and believe me, those businesses come and go like crazy. I was there a long time, hoping to not have to leave, but they made it very difficult for me. I am a blonde attractive woman with a 'bod' and got it from both sides....the Mexican women resented me and the men were always harassing me. You can keep Playa!
