All we are hearing in Texas is how dangerous it is in Mexico now. We read where some bodies we discovered just outside of Cancun. We have always gone to Playa 2-3 times a year. But right now I am unsure. What is actually happening in Paradise?
There's always a chance something can happen, but I guess that's true anywhere. We have both American and Mexican friends in Playa and they all seem to really like the current President and are very optimistic that he will keep making improvements to remove the drug cartels. Did you happen to read today's paper that the cartels have a heavy presence in Atlanta? Hard to believe.
In the meantime it's nice that we have a place to talk about these things. I feel very safe in Playa and will be the first to say if that should change.
Rick, I cannot help but wonder if it has already gotten to that point. We haven't been to Playa in over a year now. Thats the longest we have ever stayed away. I cannot help but think other people are staying away due to the uncertainly in Mexico. We have always gone to town, rode in taxies, and just had a hell of a time, with my wife wearing very little. I would be concerned now in Mexico doing some of the things we have done before.
Yes, its crazy in Atlanta and everwhere else, especially on the border. I also agree its nice to have a place to discuss beautiful Mexico. We miss it, but I know we will wait at least a few months before returning.
my girlfrind and I we live here, she is Argentinian and I am Mexican and we both are reallu surprice about the coments from the people from the States and Canada and my response all the time for that questions is... I am sorry for desapiont you but you wont see people shooting around the street... Playa is the safest place in Mexico.

Hi, where do you live? it is nice to read your comments, as you live there and you would know first hand how things are there any other advise do you have.
Safety continues to be a major concern to travelers thinking about going to Mexico. In Today's Wall Street Journal there is an excellent article about Tourist Travel to Mexico.
Simply stated: tourist travel is safe!! Concerns about safety are along the border (1,500 miles away) NOT in the Riviera Maya or the areas around Playa Del Carmen, Tulum or Cancun. Take a minute to read, the best consumer is an educated consumer and right now there are excellent values for your vacation dollar in the Riviera Maya. Take advantage of these while they last (-:
Hi, me and my wife stayed in Playacar, it is a resort town just outside of Playa Del Carmen, we felt really safe there and when we went to Cozumel there are cops all over the place it is a little unnerving but they are they to protect the tourists and they do a great job.
Texas border towns ARE unsafe right now...have been for the last couple of years. It's a sad situation as many innocent folks are suffering from the lack of American tourism. We've always gone across the borders between Texas and Mexico, but have stopped doing so now. Even Mexican-American residents in the border towns don't go across unless they must.
But, I've checked out the goverment information, etc. and feel like the Yucatan is safe. See ya in June!
