The Playa Del Carmen Social Club

South of Cancun, north of Tulum in the heart of the Riviera Maya

Hi All:

Please comment on the best small beachfront hotel where you have stayed. I'm looking for a beachfront room (air-conditioning not necessary), reasonable service (I am not the "princess" type--just polite and caring service), good proximity to good restaurants, etc. Anything else would be icing on the cake so to speak. Looking forward to hearing from ya'll. (Yes, I am from the South!) Oh, what about bicycles.....any available on Playa?

Hi Elizabeth,

Bikes are available from many rental places in town. Can you quantify the noise / beach sound ratio that you would like. In Playa there is plenty of sounds and some clubs don't close till 4am so there is 'noise stillover'.

If you were to have it 100% beach sounds / 0% noise you would be in Tulum. What is your balance (-:

Ok; thanks. Let me think more about it. I know it's impossible to put everything into one neat little package. I may need to take two vacations: One with more noise, in town amenities, etc. and one "quiet" vacation just to hear the surf!

This is definitely helping me form a better picture of what I can expect since it has been so long since being in Playa. Thanks for your continued info and I will welcome all comments on this at the discussion site.

We spent 10 days at Mimi Del Mar which is located at the dead end of 4 calle where it meets the beach. We loved our little place. We met so many people from around the world. Finland, Sweden, Canada, Argentina and of course the states. That may have been the best part of the vacation; making new friends. The location to 5th is great and we were able to walk everywhere. Mimi Del Mar has a nice balcony, small kitchenette, AC and a safe in the room. We also got breakfast included. The staff was very nice and the room was cleaned everyday. The only negative I can think of is that you must get your own water and although there may have been a better way, it resulted in us making numerous trips to Walmart for the big 5 gal jugs (which get heavy when you carry them a long way) We actually ended up taking a taxi back on most trips. My wife got a massage at Veronica's and said it was the best she ever experienced and she's had many. Can't beat those $30 massages. Any questions, let me know. Rick

Hi Rick:

Thanks for the comment. Mimi Del Mar sounds nice. Would you mind saying how much per night it costs?

Depending on your room selection and the time of year it can vary but it is around $110 per night. If you end up selecting them, we stayed in room 207 which had a nice balcony view and the room that we would select again if we go next year. The front "suites" with the large balconies are great, but if it rains, there is no cover at all whereas our balcony allowed you to sit out at your table during a shower. It's a nice place with wonderful mix of people.

Hi Elizabeth,
great idea ot have two different aspects in your vacation you may need to split them by minimum 3 days minimum stay to enjoy it, when you will be visiting the riviera maya area.

Hey issam,

Mimi is nice, there are 4 or 5 of these beachfornt hotels. Mimi, All Riviera, Illusion, Playa Plams. Pelicano Inn and others. You can find video for most here on the site, use the search box with the names above.

Also Kris can help you get current rates, many of them are running specials for your travel dates (-:

Fusion hotel. Best vibe, best price, free cont. breakfast, live music at breakfast - sitar, at 3pm-reggae band, in evening- bands . $80/night. seafood ceviche is the best . Many people walking along the beach will stop here for a meal or drinks in their outdoor lounge chairs or beach chairs and tables. Service is excellent. Surfers hang out here, has 'old playa' feel.

I was here last week for the evening music on the beach and drinks.... Fusion is a great place for food, drink and nice people. Rooms are older and very simple and clean. The hotel has been around for many, many years and lacks many of the amenities.

I am at Playa Palms most of my stay... I love the place when I am down. Casual, easy, frig I stock with fresh fruit, cheese and wine/beer.... love it. Have to do 4 days of meetings and blab, blab at the Royal Hideaway in Playacar (not really my style but off the charts for luxury) during the visit but other than that give me town and a small hotel (-:

Thanks Russ, This helps but I heard the Mexican gov't would be allowing card games in 2010 and casinos were being built now in Playa del Carmen which would have card games. I deal cards so if you do here anymore about this I would REALLY appreciat...
